Sunday, October 12, Split, Croatia. Cruise day 8 |
Split is a tender port, and the tender drops passengers off in the center of town, along the Riva,
the main walkway along the seaside, and right in front of what was Diocletian's Palace. |
|
Diocletian was a Roman ruler whose palace was built by slaves. Entry into the walled palace is free,
but there is a 35 kuna charge to visit the basement area, which were once tombs. A large church, surrouonded by ruins of ancient columns,
now occupies the center of the palace. Private apartments are also located within the old palace, and it is not unusual to see laundry and
satellite dishes hanging from the ancient walls.

Split is a resort town, and this is where I found the gelateria that had the best raspberry yogurt I've ever tasted! |
